    TRAVIS RASCO Basketball Dandy Dozen

    Moss Point/Senior/Guard/6-4

Why he's Dandy Dozen: Outstanding leaper with reputed 42-inch vertical jump and impressive athleticism. Led Tigers (17-9) to Division 7-5A playoffs last season. Played in 2007 Mississippi High School all-star game.

In other words: "Travis is the most athletic guard I've seen come from the Mississippi Gulf Coast," Moss Point coach Dale Brown says. "He shoots the 3, he can create his own shot, he runs the floor hard and he's very unselfish. He jumps effortlessly. He dunks over 6-9 guys. He's off the charts."

Interested parties: New Orleans, South Alabama, Southern Methodist, Texas Christian.

Best player I've faced: Malcoln Kirkland (Madison Central).

Favorite NBA player: Dwyane Wade (Heat).

Basketball junkie: Rasco frequently can be found in the Tigers' Arthur Haynes Gymnasium honing his game. "Travis is a gym rat," Brown says. "When we don't have practice, Travis wants me to open the gym. The only thing I think he likes is basketball."

Tornado destroys one home, damages others in Jackson County

.VANCLEAVE --Angie Gennarelli threw herself on top of her two children when she awoke just before dawn this morning to the sounds of roaring winds and pelting rain so fierce that it leveled a home next door.

."I didn't know what to do," Gennarelli said. "It was storming real bad. Then I heard something like a train or an airplane coming. Two minutes passed by, if that. It was a tornado.".

.Gennarelli's mobile home was damaged but still she was thankful for her family's safety and grateful that her neighbors to the north of her on Meadowglen Road had just moved out. Their home was destroyed..

."They moved out Sunday," she said. "They wouldn't have made it.".

.The tornado touched ground just before 6 a.m. Thursday, toppling trees, moving some vehicles and knocking out power at about 100 homes in the community of Lucasville off Jim Ramsey Road just north of Vancleave..

.No one was seriously injured, with only minor scrapes and cuts reported..

.Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd confirmed Thursday that the tornado destroyed one home and damaged more than 10 other mobile homes on Meadowglen, Blueridge and Ridgeland roads and Burgundy Drive..

."We were very blessed that no one was injured," Byrd said Thursday. "But it was, like one man said, a very rude awakening.".

.Like others affected Thursday, Tim and Kim Bond on Burgundy Drive said the tornado swept through the area so fast that they could do little other than to hunker down in their mobile home with their six children ranging in age from 18 to 18-months-old..

."It was 5:45 exactly because the alarm went off for he kids to get up for school," Kim Bond said. "Then I felt the floor start vibrating and I heard my oldest daughter calling 'Mama, Mama, Mama.'.
    "
.I just said 'get down.' Then in my mind I said 'I'm telling them to get down in a trailer. You're not supposed to be in a trailer.'".

.The tornado's fierce winds sucked up the Bond's mobile home, moving it off its concrete blocks, busting out windows and throwing around furniture before it landed some 20 feet away..
    L
.like others in the community, the Bond family said they still had a lot to be thankful for..
    "O
.our baby, by the grace of God, was OK," Kim Bond said. "She was just sitting in her bed... with clothes on top of her. She was OK.".

.Like so many in the small tight-knit community, Bond and Gennarelli turned to prayer for solace Thursday..

."We were lucky," Gennarelli said. "When it was over, I dropped to my knees and thanked God.".
    J
.Jackson County Board of Supervisor John McKay toured the devastation Thursday. He said was concerned about the Bond family, who was not left without a home to live in..

."This is a tragedy for all the people involved," McKay said. "It's a time to rally around these people and help if you can.".
